Automation Engineering Manager

Position Overview:

The Automation Manager works closely with cross functional leadership teams to set strategic direction for manufacturing automation solutions and develop tactical plans for the implementation of these solutions. This individual will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of these solutions throughout Knapheide. The successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization and have the ability to effectively manage teams of direct and indirect reports.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Accountable for implementing and proper execution of small to large scale automation projects that drive improvements in the overall safety, quality and efficiency of manufacturing operations.
• Supervises and responsible for hiring, training, and professional development of 7+ direct reports.
• Responsible for researching, developing, planning and implementing new processes and equipment through coordinated efforts with the Fab, Quality, Engineering and Operations teams.
• Develop and present options for future automation investments, including required CapEx, ROI and risks that are aligned with the overall manufacturing strategy.
• Must have a willingness to accept change and to respond with urgency to the demands placed on automation team.
• Determine what projects to investigate through collaborative discussions with peer group and ultimately suggest sound and economical automation solutions.
• Develop and leverage relationships with automation suppliers and integrators.
• Responsible for measuring equipment uptime and OEE.
• Any other reasonable activity required by leadership.

Position Requirements:

Must have bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience integrating large scale robotics systems in a manufacturing environment. History of working effectively with high performing teams on a cross functional basis with operations, manufacturing engineering and engineering. Should be an aggressive self-starter, with the ability to see beyond current situation to advance automation capabilities. Computer literacy is required and experience with Solidworks & ACAD. Roboguide along with processing and spreadsheet programs is preferred.

Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of the Position:

The ability to walk and perform normal lifting and bending. Must be able to verbally communicate.
