Information Systems Manager

Job Function/Purpose:

Manage a team charged with supporting and enhancing the organization's critical systems including virtual environments, digital storage, disaster recovery, site reliability, network (LAN/WAN) and cybersecurity. Operate as an expert and advanced support to other IT roles in the organization. Duties include writing procedures, leading projects and managing staff. Position will require work outside of normal business hours including on-call support and may require occasional travel.

Principal Activities:

  • Management
    • Manage staff who support the digital infrastructure of the business
    • Ensure team members have overlapping skillsets to cover all required technical responsibilities
    • Assign ownership roles over each IT platform to individual team members
    • Define, launch, and manage IT projects to completion
    • Establish digital security initiatives to align the company with industry best practices
    • Develop and maintain rolling 5 year plan of network and system infrastructure upgrades
    • Continually review and evaluate department standards, procedures, and techniques and recommend and implement improvements
    • Keep current with new IT trends and emerging technologies and identify those that would help achieve company objectives.
    • Provide accurate time estimates for project milestones and ensure adherence to plans
    • Participate in training and development of others
    • Organize and conduct meetings, training, and demonstrations as needed
    • Interview candidates for IT positions
  • Security
    • Use industry standard cybersecurity frameworks to establish an ongoing security plan
    • Identify potential security risks and create and manage projects to address those risks
    • Protect the organization from security breaches through a proactive approach to security
    • Detect security anomalies and implement tooling to continuously monitor cybersecurity events
    • Respond to all security incidents and communicate between team and executive staff
    • Recover from all security incidents and ensure a timely return to normal operations
    • Maintain firewall and intrusion detection policies for both internet and intranet traffic
    • Follow and enforce use of best-practice security principles across the company
  • Site Reliability
    • Monitor availability of all network and system platforms
    • Create and adhere to a business continuity/disaster recovery plan
    • Establish and implement solutions to obtain appropriate Recovery Point and Recovery Time objectives for every supported digital platform
    • Propose and implement tooling to accomplish backup and disaster recovery tasks
    • Monitor success and failure of BC/DR tooling and proactively address any problems
    • Safely restore individual files or entire servers as needed
  • Network and Systems
    • Evaluate and implement hardware and software solutions to meet business needs for computational and digital storage
    • Maintain a stable network from the perimeter to the access layer
    • Act as an escalation point for other IT team members
    • Quickly scope and troubleshoot complex IT infrastructure problems and coordinate resources from other teams as needed
    • Maintain production and disaster recovery datacenters
    • Perform hands-on technical responsibilities as required
    • Maintain Microsoft Active Directory domain and Microsoft Exchange environment
    • Maintain VMWare/vSAN environment
    • Maintain MS Windows and Ubuntu LTS servers
    • Maintain 3rd party server software environments
  • Advisory
    • Consult with the development team on system resource requirements
    • Work with the IT Helpdesk to evaluate and provide utilities that allow them to do their job more effectively and minimize pain points
    • Participate in discussions with other departments that have explicit technical needs, such as engineering and automation teams.

Knowledge/ Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or significant equivalent experience
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and the priorities of others
  • Strong understanding of technology as it relates to business processes
  • 8 years' experience in a technical support / customer service role is required.
  • Good communication skills written, phone and in person
  • Ability to clearly communicate with users
  • Applicable certifications are a plus
  • Virtualization and Storage Systems
  • Network Security
  • Network infrastructure setup and diagnostics (wired and wireless)
  • Backups and Data Replication
  • Experience with following software a plus: VMWare, Veeam, Zerto, HAProxy, MSSQL, MySQL, Linux, Nginx, Fortinet OS, Cisco IOS-XE, Wireshark, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Understanding of the OSI Model
  • Experience with following application and transport layer protocols: LACP, STP, OSPF, HTTP/HTTPS, SSL, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMTP
  • Strong understanding of PKI
  • Ability to quickly research, test and implement new technology
  • Self-motivator with the ability to manage major projects
