Regulatory Compliance Specialist I
Position Overview:
Subject matter expert in vehicle certification for the company with the ability to research new topics and train on compliance issues across the organization. Overall management of vehicle certification process and tools used in the company. Responsible for completing assigned tasks and projects in the areas of regulatory compliance with vehicle upfits.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Compliance Expertise
- Maintains in depth understanding of all applicable safety standards such as but not limited to: FMVSS, NHTSA, EPA, DOT and other related standards as needed
- Build and maintain relationships with key vehicle OEM, NTEA, supplier and other industry contacts in relation to regulatory compliance
- Research and interpret any new compliance requirements and ensure proper implementation of compliance
- Company representative for NTEA operating divisions including AISBM, VBMD, PTBA, etc
- Develops and conducts compliance training for different levels of Knapheide organization
- Assists designers and drafters with compliance expertise to complete design validation activities
- Works with suppliers on regulatory compliance of upfitted auxiliary equipment
- Conducts compliance review of new products prior to release
- Support compliance issues in related legal cases
Compliance Programs
- Maintains product guide compliance programs for model year updates and error corrections
- Ongoing collaboration with internal Knapheide IT department for changes needed to compliance programs
- Maintains and in-depth knowledge of all OEM vehicle upfit compliance requirements
- Maintains an understanding of all OEM vehicle upfit certification calculations
- Administrator of Vehicle Compliance App and corporate administrator of WorkTruckCert program for all Knapheide locations
- Create one off certification calculations and/ or programs based on OEM requirements
Performs other duties, assignments and special projects as may be required from time-to-time
Position Requirements:
- BSME or equivalent technical degree with at least 3 years of relevant design or installation experience
- Requires knowledge of product design, understanding of technical drawings, and changes required to assure compliance
- Ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment with other department personnel to gathered detailed technical information to develop manuals
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Must have good project management and organizational skills
- Must have strong PC skills and experience with 3D-CAD and MS Office applications
- Must possess or be willing to gain knowledge in VBA or other coding languages for compliance templates
- Ability to compile compliance information from multiple sources and communicate requirements in a clear and concise manner
Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of the Position:
Normal standing, bending, walking, and lifting in an office environment. Must be able to sit and work in an office environment for several hours per day. Must be capable of doing light assembly work in engineering lab occasionally. Must be available for periodic overnight travel for industry events and visits to customers and other Knapheide facilities.
