Senior Solutions Engineer

Position Overview:

The Senior Solutions Engineer is responsible for collaborating across our customer groups to develop complete vehicles solutions to best meet the needs of the end users of these vehicles.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Gather information from customers on what objectives they are attempting to accomplish with their vehicles and make recommendations on the proper selection/combination of products to meet these objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, the selection of chassis, bodies, and accessories.
• Ensure that solutions meet all compliance requirements set forth by NHTSA and the chassis OEMs. May also require interaction with customer to influence their product selections with non-conforming solutions. Collaborate with OEM's on non-conforming solutions with intent to drive potential change to OEM guidance where appropriate.
• Develop and maintain a prioritized listing of products from a combination of standard and custom Knapheide products, KTEC manufactured products, and products sourced from other suppliers. This listing will be utilized when developing solutions.
• Identify gaps in product offerings (Knapheide or supplied) and collaborate with product management and/or supply chain teams to develop/source offerings and coordinate the addition of these products to the Knapheide Product Guide. Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain on make/buy opportunities to best match organizational objectives.
• Develop a solution and coordinate the creation of a concept drawing depicting the solution.
• Develop and maintain a library of solutions based on vocations and specific customer needs and index and tag these solutions with keywords so they can easily be identified for future use.
• Carry voice of the customer throughout the process from solution development through completion of upfit. Some solutions development will require support through the design and installation process.
• Serve as a mentor and master expert for other Solutions Engineers in their development and understanding of solutions in the commercial vehicle marketplace. Lead cross-functional teams to create and deliver customer solutions on large opportunities.
• Participate in customer reviews via onsite visits and/or web conferences. Participate in on-site pilot runs for large volume builds. 20% travel to support on-site visits can be expected.
• Support the Knapheide enterprise with expert product knowledge on the Knapheide portfolio of products.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or other technical discipline or equivalent experience required
• 5-10 years of applicable product knowledge in engineered industrial or transportation-related products preferred.
• Extensive Knapheide product knowledge as well as knowledge of auxiliary equipment installed used in the commercial vehicle marketplace.
• Solid Works experience a plus.
• Project management experience.
• Ability to travel multiple days in a row frequently on short notice.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
• Must have strong communication skills.

Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of the Position:

Must be able to perform normal office duties. May need to travel periodically by car, airplane, etc. The ability to communicate verbally and in written form. Be able to work trade shows and attend other customer events.
